MoerseQR makes party shirts with a QR code on them. This page explains, in plain words, what information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We follow South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

If you scan a shirt

You don't need an account and we don't ask who you are. We store:

  • That the shirt was scanned, and when. This gives the owner a scan count.
  • A random code your phone makes up and keeps (in your browser's storage). It isn't linked to your name, number or location. We only use it to stop one phone from spamming scans or messages.
  • Any anonymous message you choose to send. The shirt's owner can read it. Don't put personal details in a message unless you're happy for the owner to see them.

We don't store your IP address, location or contacts, and we don't sell anything to advertisers.

If you own a shirt

When you claim a shirt we store:

  • Your email address, so you can log in.
  • Which shirts you own, and your settings: modes, your own dares and questions, and your payment link if you add one.
  • The scan counts and messages for your shirts.

Nothing about you shows on your shirt's scan page unless you put it there yourself, for example in a dare or your payment link.

Who helps us run MoerseQR

We use Supabase (database and login) and Vercel (website hosting). They store and process this information for us, and their servers may be outside South Africa. Like most websites, they may keep short-term technical logs (such as IP addresses) to keep the service secure and working.

How long we keep things

  • Messages stay until the shirt owner deletes them, or until we delete them after a report.
  • Your account and settings stay until you ask us to delete them.
  • Scan counts stay with the shirt.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we have about you, or object to how we use it. Email our contact email (coming soon, it will be added here). If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.

Age

MoerseQR is made for adults at parties. You must be 18 or older to own a shirt or send messages.
